Weather blog: Keeping an eye on Saturday's snow

The Stormtracker 16 team has the latest updates on what we can expect from this weekend's storm.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA —

LATEST UPDATE:

The steadiest and heaviest snow is now well to our east. Winter Storm Warnings have been cancelled. Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect until 1am because of the threat for lingering snow showers and squalls. There is also a Wind Advisory for Carbon and Monroe Counties.

Lingering snow showers/squalls will continue this evening with gusty winds persisting. Tonight temperatures fall into the teens and single digits. Wind chill factors Sunday morning will be near 0, subzero for those coldest spots. We should start to see some clearing towards tomorrow morning, winds diminish a bit by then, too.

SUMMARY:

Rain and snow developed Friday night and Saturday morning, however, everyone is now seeing just plain snow. The heaviest snow falls Saturday morning into the early afternoon.

Expect temps to fall below freezing early in the morning and continue dropping through the day. Northeast winds averaging 15-25mph through Saturday morning with gusts to 40 mph possible.

Snow accumulations will be between 4-8 inches across much of the area. Steady snow tapers to snow showers and flurries by mid-afternoon.

IMPACTS:

Snow will be steadiest Saturday morning until early afternoon.

With temps near and below freezing, snow will stick to the roads.

Travel and road conditions will improve slowly late Saturday afternoon and evening.

Winds will continue to blow from the north as skies clear into Sunday morning and temps drop into the teens. The combination of heavy, wet snow and gusty wind will lead to power outages.

Only flurries are expected into early Sunday with mainly dry weather expected through the early afternoon.

A few more snow showers may develop later Sunday, but with little or no accumulation.
