WILLIAMSPORT -- A $1 million settlement has been reached in the wrongful death lawsuit against a Williamsport police officer.
The lawsuit stems from the death of 42-year-old James Robinson, who died after his car collided with a speeding police cruiser driven by Williamsport Police Officer Jonathan Deprenda.
In addition to the money, Williamsport City Council will issue an apology to Robinson's mother and erect a plaque in the victim's honor. The city must also rename its cultural arts grant program for Robinson and fund $3,000 to it for the next 10 years.
Williamsport police will adopt a new pursuit policy and will provide more training for its officers on the use of emergency vehicles.
Deprenda pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and is serving five years probation. He was fired from his job as a police officer.
