WILKES-BARRE -- The rain came down in sheets Monday morning, causing flooding all over the area.
There were a lot of close calls overnight in Luzerne County. Despite crews closing the 400 block of Blackman Street in Wilkes-Barre, one man drove right through the flooded street. That was until he hit about two feet of water and decided to turn around.
Fast forward an hour later on the same Wilkes-Barre road and it's like nothing happened. The flash flooding was gone.
"When I woke up, I didn't expect the rain and the flood and the river to be all like that, I really didn't," said Alexander Jackson.
The Wilkes-Barre Fire Department also kept a close watch on the soggy city, especially the water levels at Solomon Creek on Waller Street.
And if it wasn't the water causing concern in Luzerne County, downed trees along busy Route 11 also did a fair share of snarling traffic in West Nanticoke.
It's really affecting us pretty badly -- trees down, rocks in the roadway, flooding issues. We're really fighting it, trying to do everything we can to protect the public as we see this stuff," said Plymouth Township Deputy Fire Chief Barry Lore. "The water is just too much. The ground is just so saturated from the other day. most of the trees we've had have been uprooted."
Water ponding on Route 11 brought along some unwanted to debris, like some rocks that damaged the front end and radiator of a car. The driver had it towed away as he found another way home.
As fast as the rain came down, the water quickly receded in Luzerne County.
