LOCK HAVEN -- Adam Coleman left court in Clinton County Tuesday afternoon feeling elated.
A jury found him not guilty of theft and conspiracy to commit theft.
Coleman, a former Clinton County commissioner was accused of scamming the Lock Haven Area Y.M.C.A. out of thousands along with the Y.M.C.A.'s former director, Jeremiah Clark.
Clark is serving jail time after pleading guilty to charges he stole more than $100,000 from the Y.M.C.A.
Coleman's mother, Kimberly Coleman was convicted of charges related to the money scam.
In court, Adam Coleman testified on his own behalf, saying he took money as a loan, an I. O. U. He he said he paid the money back.
"It's ridiculous. He's going to get what he deserves sooner or later," said Michael Benfield of Lock Haven.
Many who spoke with Newswatch 16 said they believe Coleman did the wrong thing, despite the jury's decision.
"I was kind of shocked in a way, in a lot of ways," said Michael McGill of Lock Haven about the verdict.
"It shouldn't be an I. O. U. situation especially if it has to do with that much money, because if I worked at a job and took that much, I would be looking at jail time. It shouldn't matter if you're a commissioner or anything or whatever the case may be," said another man from Lock Haven.
Prosecutors in the Coleman case said they were disappointed, but respected the jury's decision.
