CENTER TOWNSHIP -- Seniors at Penns Creek Adult Resource Center got some exercise and enjoyed some laughs while they worked out, but before the workout, they got a warning from the center's manager Chris Erb.

Erb spoke with the seniors about being careful when opening up doors to people they don't know.

"Be aware of who is pulling into your house and if you know them. If you don't, just don't open up the door to them," Erb said.

Erb talked to the seniors after an elderly Snyder County resident was robbed just days earlier.

Harold Walter, 89, of Black Bear Drive answered his door on Friday. Police say three women walked inside, put a blanket over his head, and stole money from his wallet.

Kathryn Sprenkel knows Walter.

"It's really scary because I live right up from him. I'm getting worked up," Sprenkel said.

Some of the seniors say it is well known that Walter always carried cash in his wallet.

"They just know who they can prey on and it's unfortunate that they take advantage of them," Erb said.

The incident has the seniors shaken up, but being extra cautious.

"When I'm there alone, I'm afraid to open up the doors. When my son is away, I lock every door," Sprenkel said.

Everyone knows it's important to keep your doors locked at your home and inside your car, but it's especially important during the holiday season when thieves are looking for presents inside.

"That's why it's important to know where your phone is, if you have a cell phone to use it. Dial 911 and just be careful," Erb said.

According to state police, there are no suspects in Friday's robbery. If you have any information, you're asked to call state police.
