PENNSYLVANIA, USA — More than 19,000 homes and businesses are in the dark across 18 counties thanks to wild Wednesday weather.
Many of those were in the northeast corner of the state, according to a review of outages hosted by PPL, UGI, Penelec and Claverak. Nearly 6,000 homes and businesses were in the dark in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties alone.
Traffic lights were dark in parts of Lackawanna County's mid-valley. Officials say the county's 911 center in Jessup is running on backup power.
Also in Lackawanna County, a tree fell on a home on East Pine Street in Dunmore just before noon. Officials say no one is living in the home.
In central Pennsylvania, stormwater overwhelmed some roads and farmlands.
Several roads in the Lewisburg and Mifflinburg areas were closed or blocked off due to flooding.
Some school districts in that area dismissed early because of the flooding.
Flooding also shut down a road in Northumberland County.
Water completely covered Shakespeare Road in East Chillisquaque Township, near Milton.
The heavy rain even caused Chillisquaque Creek to leave its banks
