The storm and its aftermath

Newswatch 16's Ally Gallo shows us how things look after stormy weather overnight.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — A night of heavy rain and wind meant a morning of flooded basements and roadways and power outages.

Tuesday's storm brought snow, rain, wind, and then even heavier rain. Most of the area got anywhere from one to three inches of rain.

In eastern Pennsylvania, that was combined with the melting of nearly one foot of snow that fell over the weekend. There were reports of flooded basements overnight and isolated flooding on roadways.

Route 611 at the intersection of Warner Road was underwater for hours. The water came from a nearby creek. Business owners and drivers in the area tell Newswatch 16 that this section of roadway floods often. It was closed for the Wednesday morning commute but is now reopened.

The Susquehanna River at Wilkes-Barre is expected to crest Thursday morning below minor flood stage.

But after the heavy rain ended late Tuesday night, the concern for gusty winds remained Wednesday morning. Debris and branches covered roadways all over the area.

A busy stretch of road was still closed Wednesday morning in Plains Township. This section of Route 315 between Laird Street and the entrance to the Cross Valley Expresses was closed because of wires down on the roadway. Newswatch 16 was there all morning as drivers had to turn around and take an alternate route.

In Lackawanna County, a section of South Main Street in Old Forge was closed due to a downed pole that left nearly 2,000 homes and businesses without power for a time Tuesday night.

Many school districts in the area had a two-hour delay because of power outages.
