Sunday storms lead to high water, flooding across the area

Another round of storms hit this afternoon, forcing closures of roads and some events to end early.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — Another round of strong storms made its way through Northeastern and Central Pa Sunday afternoon.

In Lackawanna and Susquehanna Counties, officials are warning people to stay off of flooded roads.

The Greenfield Township Fire Department shared that Route 106 is closed from Finch Hill to Clifford, and Route 247 is closed at Heart Lake Corners.

In Clifford, a portion of route 106, near Barhite's Sales and Rentals, was completely covered in water. A family needed to be rescued from their home.

"Yeah, it stopped for a little bit, and then it came down again really hard and then that's when everything got crazy. I'm so grateful that they came, I think that it helped a lot that they came and saved us." said Ciearrah Kastawa, who was rescued.

A Newswatch 16 crew noted flooding at Kennedy Park on Dundaff Street in Forest City.

In Monroe County, the West End Fair closed early Sunday. The fair resumes tomorrow.

Over in Lycoming County, game 20 of the Little League World Series between the Caribbean Region and the Australia Region was suspended and will resume tomorrow.

Newswatch 16 is continuing to monitor the weather and flooding and will have more information as it becomes available.
