PENNSYLVANIA, USA — The strong coastal storm that brought flooding rains and wind is pulling away and the heaviest bands of rain now in far Eastern PA are continuing to taper off. We have seen reports of more than four inches of rain, and Flood Warnings and Flash Flood Warnings have been issued. Rising creeks, streams, and rivers are still a concern for the next day or so, even after the rain ends.
Tunkhannock Creek in Tunkhannock is cresting this afternoon at right around 14 feet, which is the start of 'moderate' flood stage.
The Susquehanna River in Wilkes-Barre is expected to crest Tuesday afternoon at 24.2 feet, this is considered 'minor' flood stage.
In Bradford County, the Susquehanna River is expected to crest late tonight at 17.4 feet, a 'minor' flood stage.
In both Bloomsburg and Danville, the Susquehanna River will likely crest later Tuesday at a 'minor' flood stage, just over 20 feet.
As the storm pulls away, the shifting wind will bring in colder air. Temperatures will stay in the 40s all day long and then drop into the 30s overnight. Lingering flakes or light snow showers are possible later tonight and through early tomorrow. A gusty wind out of the northwest can bring down power lines and trees (especially with such saturated ground).
Tuesday will be colder and windy, but snow showers will end early, and we should see some clearing. beyond that, the weather will be very quiet the rest of the week and into the holiday weekend. We'll have sunshine and seasonal temperatures in the low 40s.
