Overnight Pa. Turnpike closure planned for March 17 between Wyoming Valley and Pocono exits

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists that the Northeast Extension will be closed in both directions.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is planning to close a section of the Northeast Extension in both directions on Sunday, March 17 for bridge work.

The closure is expected to last from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m. between the Pocono Interchange (Exit 95) in Carbon County and the Wyoming Valley Interchange (Exit 115) in Luzerne County.

The closure is needed for crews to remove overhead bridge beams. 

The bridge carries Laurel Run Road over the Turnpike.

During the closure, drivers will be able to enter the Wilkes Barre Interchange (Exit 105) and travel northbound. 

Northbound Detour:

Follow Interstate 80 west for 16.8 miles to Interstate 81 north for 23.6 miles to PA 315 north for 0.3 miles. Re-enter the PA Turnpike at the Wyoming Valley Interchange (Exit 115).

Southbound Detour:

Follow PA 315 South for 1.4 miles to I-81 south for 23.7 miles to I-80 east for 16.8 miles. Re-enter the PA Turnpike at the Pocono Interchange (Exit 95).

Pennsylvania State Police and Turnpike personnel will be positioned in the impacted areas to assist drivers. 

Digital message signs will also provide information on closures and detours. 

Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions. Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly.
