ARLINGTON, Texas — Former LSU ace and current Pittsburgh Pirates rookie sensation Paul Skenes has been named the National League All-Star starting pitcher, it was announced Friday.
Skenes received the news Friday from National League manager Torey Lovullo of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who surprised him during an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show.
“That’s unbelievable,” Skenes said when he received the news. “That’s awesome.”
Skenes has burst onto the scene after being the top draft pick in the 2023 college baseball draft. Skenes has pitched in only 11 games but has a 6-0 record and a 1.90 era. He has recorded 89 strikeouts in 66 innings.
