WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Little League World Series draws fans from across the globe to South Williamsport each year. The day of the MLB Little League Classic adds extra excitement to the atmosphere as fans and Little Leaguers get a chance to see star players up close and personal.
The New York Yankees were greeted by a large and energetic crowd Sunday afternoon at the Little League International Complex.
The team arrived at the complex during the Mid-Atlantic Region’s (Council Rock Newtown’s) 12-2 win over the Northwest Region.
The Yankees were scheduled to meet the Detroit Tigers in the Little League Classic at Historic Bowman Field for game three of a three game series Sunday evening. But for majority of the day, the team spent time with the Little League players. Signing autographs, taking photos, sliding down the hill on pieces of cardboard.
Upon the Yankees’ arrival to Williamsport Regional Airport, I asked third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. what activity he was most looking forward to doing with the Little Leaguers.
"I'm excited to see someone's best eurostep,” Chisholm Jr. said. “I've got to see if they got it or they got to step back for roll call,” he said as he proceeded to encourage a Mountain Region Little League player to show off his dance moves to the camera.
The Yankees third baseman was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a UCL injury, thus keeping him out of action in Williamsport.
Chisolm Jr., a fan favorite, was seen enjoying himself all over the Little League International Complex and in the broadcast booth at Bowman Field Sunday night.
