Valley View graduate chosen for Women's Football Alliance All-American game

Katielynne Grunza has played for the Columbus Chaos the past three season and will represent the best of the league in Canton, Ohio.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — For the past three seasons,  Katielynne Grunza has been a member of the Columbus Chaos.  The Valley View grad started playing tackle football at a young age, but as she got older, she stopped because there weren't any opportunities to continue as a girl.  Now, Grunza has a chance to shine in a sport with growing opportunities for the next generation of female football players.

"I'm just grateful to have the opportunity to showcase and show off and all the other little girls that we can do it," said Grunza.

Columbus is one of more than 60 women's tackle football teams in the Women's Football Alliance.   Grunza loves to wreak havoc, playing on defense for the Chaos at strong safety.

"I like the freedom of having the flats, like I can get whatever is up here.  I like tackles for loss.  I think I led the Division II in the league for tackles for loss and tackles.  I just really enjoyed that position this year," said Grunza.

Last month, Grunza was chosen to play on the WFA's All-American team, in a game at Tom Benson Hall Of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.

"There was only four picked in my position so I was like wow they noticed me and my athletic ability.  So just to showcase them in front of a live audience on ESPN," Grunza said.

Grunza will also compete in a combine for the chance to be selected to the WFA's International team.

You can catch Grunza playing in the WFA All-American game.. July 27th at 12:30pm on ESPN2.
