Scranton Prep ready for rematch in PIAA state 'AAA' quarterfinals

Coming off a District II championship, the Cavaliers will face Northwestern Lehigh in the quarterfinals. The Tigers eliminated Prep in the same round last year.

SCRANTON, Pa. — The Scranton Prep football program continues its dominance, winning its fourth straight District II AAA title beating Wyoming Area last week.  The Cavaliers have won 8 district championships over the last 10 years.  This season, Prep commanded the field, with players like Louis Paris and Will McPartland, leading the offense to some of those big wins that got them to this point.

"It feels good to be on a winning team, a team that always comes to work. We put a lot of emphasis in practice to go out there and keep winning games, so I think that's the reason we've been so dominant over these years," said senior Reese Tanner.

"We have some really, really good kids that we like to push and they're competitive, and luckily we've been able to develop those guys and hopefully we'll just continue to get better and continue to improve," said Terry Gallagher.

The Cavaliers win wasn't perfect according to head coach Terry Gallagher.  But it's about fixing what you can control and that's something the team is focused on this week.

"We have to not make silly penalties that we're hurting ourselves, clean up the turnovers and just continue to get better in terms of identifying formations, communication, and attacking," Gallagher said.

The Cavaliers are familiar with their opponent for the quarterfinals this week, Northwestern Lehigh. This is the team they lost to in the same round last year, but now they feel like they're more prepared to face them this time.

"With those games that we played early on, just to the speed and physicality that really brought us together to be prepared for this game.  Probably their run game and they're strong players and good blocking, so we'll just come in and try to hit them harder," said senior Jack Doughton.

The Cavaliers will look to tame the Tigers on Friday night at Harmon-Geist Stadium in Hazleton.
