ORWIGSBURG, Pa. — Noah Powers is the gold standard at Blue Mountain High-School in boy's swimming. The 16-year-old junior is already a PIAA state champion in the 50 free collecting that medal in 2022 as a freshman. And just this October invited along with 52 other boy's swimmers to the USA Swimming National Select Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado.
“We had 5 practices in total each 2 hours long. It was a very unique experience. The meetings they we're able to help me out a lot. A lot about nutrition and a lot about different training. So, it was very helpful to do that,” said Noah.
In July at the USA Swimming Futures Championships in Richmond Virginia Powers opened many eyes by finishing 2nd in the 50 free in 23.31 and the invite coming shortly after that.
“It was kind of a wide variety. I went there on my 50 free long courses, but they mainly worked on everything-individual medley, sprint and distance. They kind of had a whole variety of stuff to kind of teach kids,” again said Noah.
This Blue Mountain Eagles boy's swim program at an all-time high. Currently they've run off 5 consecutive Schuylkill League Championships and 5 consecutive District 11 titles and oh wouldn't 6 be nice.
“Basically the same as every year try to win leagues and districts again. I think that we are going on our 6th-peat again this year. So that would be awesome to do girl's and boy's,” added Noah.
Powers continues his training at the Blue Mountain Middle School and in November goes to Greensboro North Carolina for the Toyota US Open Qualifier for the Olympic Team Trials. A good showing there the next stop would be to Indianapolis in June of 2024.
