The 10th annual Penn State Football Uplifting Athletes "Lift for Life" took place on the Penn State campus Friday evening on the University's lacrosse field across from the Bryce Jordan Center.
80 student athletes put their physical abilities to the test at several workout stations. It was called the Offense vs. Defense.
The stations included a medicine ball flip over a goal post, a van push, weighted relay race station and tug of war. This was a new set-up conducted by the new strength and conditioning coach at Penn State and fit into the team's summer workouts. Fans lined the fence outside and sat in the bleacher section provided to get a better view. Players signed autographs and there was memorabilia there to purchase. Donations we're accepted and a fee to enter.
Money raised benefits the Kidney Cancer Association. Since 2003 Penn State has raised $600,000 dollars. The Uplifting Athletes has grown to 13 chapters with Boston College, Colgate, Kent State, Maryland, NC State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Princeton, St. Francis, Notre Dame, Illinois, and Fordham.
West Scranton graduate and current Penn State offensive lineman Eric Shrive raised nearly $24,000 alone. This is the second year that Eric has raised the most money.
Penn State opens up camp in three weeks and plays the 2012 home opener September 1st against Ohio University.
