WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Two District II Girls Soccer Semifinals matches took place in Wilkes-Barre on a windy Saturday afternoon.
#3 seeded Williamsport faced #2 seed Wyoming Valley West at Spartan Stadium. Williamsport jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half off the foot of senior forward, Nylah Ford.
Ford was also responsible for the game winning goal in overtime, sending her team back to the District Championship.
"I saw the ball going in. I kind of saw it drifting towards the post and I knew I had to crash or that was probably our last chance," said Ford. "I knew it was now or never. I've been saying that all week, it's now or never. I feel like this is a great chance. We have a really young team, we have so much potential, and I just hope we put it away," she said.
Williamsport will face the top seed, Wilkes-Barre Area, in the District Championship.
Wilkes-Barre played #4 seed Delaware Valley at home. Both team's goalkeepers recorded a clean sheet in the match that extended into overtime. After two scoreless overtime periods, the game went into penalty kicks. Angelena Mendola, Addi Corchado, Jackie Rico and Leah Pryor each made their kicks, giving the Wolfpack a 4-2 win to advance to the finals.
The district championship takes place on Wednesday, October 30th at Wilkes-Barre Area High School.
