Hosts assist teams during the Little League World Series

The 20 teams playing the Little League World Series have team hosts helping them with everything they need during the tournament and their stay in South Williamsport

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — "There's lots of times when I'm making recommendations for coffee shops or restaurants or places to get, you know, cash or whatever really anything they ask us, you know we're their parents away from home," said Ron Frick, Host for Europe Africa region.

Ron Frick has been a Little League World Series team host for 21 years. This is the second year he's serving as host for the Europe-Africa region.

"There are two, usually two to three of us on each team that are assigned each team; it's a random pick every year, so you could get Asia Pacific this year, or you could get you know Europe Africa, and then every morning we're here at generally by 7 in the morning and we go home when things are done for the day," said Frick.

Some of the hosts' duties include getting the athletes back and forth to lunch and breakfast and getting them to production activities.

"And then once, you know, once these guys are now out of the tournament, so we're doing a lot of social things, you know we're going to baseball games, and trying to figure out what we're gonna plan—playing cross-over games with other teams and there's a lot of activity there's never a dull moment it's a busy day every day," said Frick.

Frick says he learns a lot from the teams, too. This year, he's starting to learn more Czech.

"The kids are very respectful, they really do what you ask them to do, they're still 12-year-old kids, they still like to have fun and goof around and you know but it's a really good experience and i'm glad i get a chance to do it," said Frick.

Frick tells Newswatch 16 he's still in contact with some players he's been a host for over the years.
