SCRANTON, Pa. — The new year is a time for new things. And one of the biggest happened 40 years ago.
It was a New Year's Eve party on Dec. 31, 1983, to mark the grand opening of the new Hilton Hotel in downtown Scranton. It's a Radisson now.
The place was nearly torn down, but Scranton Mayor Jim McNulty and investors stepped in to save the building, constructed back in 1908.
The Scranton train station attracted plenty of guests and people who just wanted to take a look around.
