Trooper found guilty for deadly Tioga County crash

A jury found Trooper Michael Brown guilty of the fiery wreck that killed Christing Woodward last year in Tioga County.

TIOGA COUNTY, Pa. — A Pennsylvania State Trooper has been found guilty of homicide for a fiery crash that killed a woman in Tioga County.

A jury returned the vehicular homicide verdict against Michael Brown on Friday afternoon, following a week-long trial regarding the February 11, 2023, collision that killed 47-year-old Christine Woodward.

According to the attorney general's office, while off-duty, Trooper Brown attempted to pass a vehicle illegally on Route 6 across double yellow lines. It happened in Sullivan Township on February 11, 2023.

Brown's vehicle struck an oncoming vehicle, killing Woodward, the driver.

Brown was on his way to work at his barracks in Tioga County. He was charged in August 2023.

Brown is free on bail until sentencing.
