Puppy Mill bill back in the House

Legislators are hoping the ban on puppy mills sticks this time around

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — Puppy Mills are once again making the news. Advocates are hoping a ban will stick this time around. The people behind the newest effort believe it could work this time around.

The bill aims to eliminate puppy mills and encourage the Pennsylvania pet market to work with more rescues and animal shelters.

The bill was proposed fourteen months ago and is still stuck in The Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee. A state representative from the Lehigh Valley feels there will be action on the house bill this year.  It's already worked on the local level.

State Rep. Jeanne McNeill from Lehigh County says, "Some of the groups are working with the municipalities, and one by one, the Allentown, Bethlehem area and Forks Township area have had passed their own laws, banning pet shops, and selling puppy mill dogs.

There are fifty co-sponsors of the Anti-Puppy Mill Bill, and that gives advocates reason for hope. It's believed the House will talk about it again after the state budget is passed, and that deadline is July 1st.
