PA National Guard to assist in Washington D.C.

The governor says the guard members will assist through the presidential inauguration.

WASHINGTON D.C., DC — UPDATE 01/15/21:

Governor Tom Wolf announced on Friday, Jan. 15, that approximately 1,000 more Pennsylvania National Guard members had been activated to support D.C. National Guard and D.C. local civil authorities.

The National Guard has been activated in preparation for the upcoming presidential inauguration on Jan. 20. 

This will bring the total number of activated Pennsylvania National Guard assisting D.C. National Guard to approximately 2,000.

Pennsylvania has the second-largest National Guard in the country. 

There are approximately 19,000 members located in more than 80 armories and readiness centers across the state.

The governor says guard members will assist D.C. National Guard and local civilian authorities through the presidential inauguration, scheduled for Jan. 20.

Members of the guard are expected to receive their assignments over the next few days.

Some members will travel to Washington D.C. to assist where they are needed.
