PENNSYLVANIA, USA — AAA predicts 43. 8 million people will travel for the Memorial Day holiday, which would be close to matching the record from 2005.
Some people are getting an early start for their Memorial Day travel plans, like Barbara Stagliano who is heading south from upstate New York.
"I'm going down with my cousin. Her grandson is graduating from high school, and my son lives there, so we are going to be visiting for the holiday," said Stagliano.
Of those driving, nearly three million people are expected to use the Pennsylvania Turnpike to get to their destination.
People who hit the road early in the week say, so far, there have been no traffic holdups.
'We were in Florida and then we went to his son's, so that was North Carolina, and we stayed the night in Fredericksburg. We'll be back about 5 p.m. on the lake in East Hampton, Connecticut," said Holly Feitelson of Florida.
Drivers passing through our area say they're glad they got a head start from the rush that AAA says is expected to start Thursday afternoon.
"I think you will have plenty of people, I really do, and I think there will be plenty of action, let's say," said Feitelson.
But there is a big question on everyone's mind.
"What's the best day to travel getting out of the south? Sunday or Monday?" asked Stagliano.
AAA says the best time to head home is Monday after 7 p.m.
