HARRISBURG, Pa. — There is so much to see and do at the Pennsylvania Farm Show, and one of the most popular attractions lets people witness the miracle of life—the Calving Corner.
For the first time, a farm from our viewing area is featured.
Doug and Angie Harbach own Schrack Farms in Loganton. They brought four cows to the farm show.
"It gives us an opportunity to tell our story, a little bit about what we do every day, share the miracle of life with some calves that are being born," said Doug Harbach. "We had two born on Monday, a boy and a girl, and we had a girl born this morning."
When Newswatch 16 stopped by the Calving Corner, Claire was in active labor. There was a large crowd watching. She needed a little assistance, but soon enough, her female calf was born.
Doug and Angie named the new calf Nikki after Newswatch 16's Nikki Krize.
"It's nice that the public gets to see what we see and experience our feelings. We love our animals, and we like to show everybody, really," Angie Harbach said.
"The neat thing for us is seeing everybody else's reaction and everybody else's face the first time they get to see something that we kind of take for granted a little bit that we get to do every day," Doug added.
The goal of the Calving Corner is to have two live births each day of the Farm Show.
Now that all four of the Harbach's cows have given birth, a new farm will take over the Calving Corner on Wednesday. Baby Nikki and her friends will head back to Clinton County.
