Crews battle massive fire at warehouse in York County

Emergency crews are asking people to avoid the 400 block of S. Albemarle Street in the city as they work to extinguish the fire.

YORK, Pa. — Update, July 14: The York Professional Fire Fighters Association has released an update on Friday evening's warehouse fire.

As of 36 hours into the incident, one engine and a duty officer continue to conduct fire watch and extinguish hot spots while the building is demolished, the association stated.

The remaining roads are closed due to fire cleanup and demolition:

  • South Albemarle between Commerce and Pequea
  • Commerce between Albemarle and Wheatfield
  • Elm between Lancaster and Norway
  • Several adjoining parking lots and alleyways

Previously: Emergency crews are at the scene of a massive fire in York County. 

According to Ted Czech with York County Emergency Management Services, the fire was dispatched at 6:37 p.m. The blaze is at a warehouse located at 951 Elm Street in York City. 

Emergency crews are asking people to avoid the 400 block of S. Albemarle Street in the city as they work to extinguish the flames. The City of York also warned nearby residents of the warehouse that although there is no immediate danger, gas and electricity services may be affected.

The fire could be seen from several miles away.

FOX43's crew at the scene is reporting that the building has partially collapsed. However, no firefighters or first responders were injured.

According to York County Emergency Dispatch, at least one firefighter was injured while fighting the blaze and was transported to WellSpan York Hospital. 

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

The York County Police Department is asking for help gathering video surveillance footage related to the fire. Anyone with video of the area shortly before 6:40 p.m. on Friday, July 12 has been asked to contact the York City Police Department.
