PENNSYLVANIA, USA — "The Democratic party has really moved away from him, and here he is no longer going to run for reelection," said Corey O'Brien, Newswatch 16 political analyst.
WNEP's political analyst Corey O'Brien says Joe Biden's decision to enter and then exit the 2024 race for the White House will ultimately play a role in his legacy.
But for now, it is what the Democratic party needed.
"So that'll give the Democratic party a little bit of confidence that Kamala Harris could potentially be the Democratic nominee," said O'Brien.
But O'Brien points out that the nomination of Vice President Harris is not a guarantee.
The Democrats could decide to have an open primary when the party gathers for its convention next month in Chicago.
O'Brien thinks Harris would need a running mate who would soften her left-leaning persona, "And bring somebody in there a little bit more moderate, and maybe have a fighting chance, he said.
A running mate like, say, Josh Shapiro? Pennsylvania's Governor has already been prominently mentioned as a potential Vice Presidential candidate.
Either way, it's a political overhaul that Corey O'Brien has never seen in his life, but he wants voters to know it's something America can handle, "Whether this was the Civil War era, whether it was the 1960's, we've faced tumultuous times in the past. :31 And I want to make sure that not only the American people, but the people of Northeastern Pennsylvania know that we're going to be ok. Our democracy is going to survive these moments, and we're going to be stronger for having had them."
