Gov. Josh Shapiro responds after Kamala Harris chooses running mate

Kamala Harris announced Tuesday that Tim Walz was joining her on the ticket.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Shortly after Kamala Harris announced that Tim Walz would join her on the ticket, another potential vice presidential candidate issued a statement.

That candidate was Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.

It was a combination of looking back and looking forward for Josh Shapiro.

The word leaked late Monday when several news organizations reported Kamala Harris narrowed her six potential candidates down to two, Tim Walz and Josh Shapiro.

The governor released a statement this morning after the Walz selection.

Shapiro said Harris was interviewed on Sunday as part of the vetting process, and he was grateful to be considered.

Now that the chance to be vice president is off the table, Shapiro will focus on running the state, at least this time around.

The 51-year-old democrat added, “There is a lot more stuff I want to get done for the good people of this Commonwealth.”

Shapiro also said he intends to work to get the Harris/Walz team elected and will attend the late afternoon rally at Temple University in Philadelphia.
