PENNSYLVANIA, USA — Following Joe Biden's announcement Sunday that he will not seek reelection in the 2024 presidential race, reactions and endorsements poured in across the nation as well as in the Commonwealth, including from Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
Governor Shapiro released a statement endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris Sunday evening, saying in part, "The best path forward for the Democratic Party is to quickly unite behind Vice President Harris and refocus on winning the presidency. The contrast in this race could not be clearer, and the road to victory in November runs right through Pennsylvania - where this collective work began. I will do everything I can to help elect Kamala Harris as the 47th President of the United States."
Similarly, Senator Bob Casey issued a statement Sunday night on 'X' formerly Twitter, saying, "With women's rights, workers' rights, and voting rights on the line, the stakes of this election for Pennsylvania and the Nation couldn't be higher. Vice President Harris has been leading on those fights and as a former prosecutor, she will draw a clear contrast between herself and former President Trump. She is prepared to be Commander-in-Chief and is the best person to meet this moment. I'm proud to endorse her candidacy for President."
Gov. Shapiro was sworn in as Pennsylvania's Governor in 2023 after serving two years as the state's Attorney General.
