NOXEN, Pa. — State police in Wyoming County searched a property in Noxen on Friday.
State police spent most of the day outside Simon's Auto parts Along Route 29 in Noxen Township for what they call a criminal investigation.
Troopers wouldn't provide much information about what they were looking for but did say they had also searched the property on Thursday.
Newswatch 16 saw equipment digging in an area behind a garage.
"We're conducting a criminal investigation at the property behind us and that's all we're releasing at this point," said Trooper Bill Evans
Wyoming County District Attorney Joe Peters said his office is also involved in the investigation.
People who live in the area are curious about what was going on.
"There's been people talking about it on our Noxen page to see if anybody knows what's going on. I'm still in the dark as far as what it's actually about," Sally Mock said.
"You always hope that they don't find anything because when they find something, you know that somebody definitely died," Lori Geiger said.
People we spoke with say this isn't the first time Noxen has had so much police activity.
The property where state police were digging is owned by 78-year-old John Simon. Back in 2006, Simon went to trial for his role in a robbery during which a man was killed. Simon was found guilty as an accomplice to the murder and served several years behind bars.
"We've had issues with that before out there, so it wouldn't surprise me if they find something, but I hope they don't," Mock said.
State police wrapped up searching the property around 2 p.m. Friday. They say, at this point, they have no plans to go back.
Investigators have not said if they found anything or what the search is related to.
