Resource center reopens in Tunkhannock

With more space, a resource center in Wyoming County says it can now help more low-income families.

TUNKHANNOCK, Pa. — Wyoming County's Interfaith Friends opened its new location on Bridge Street in Tunkhannock with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The resource center and thrift store are now open in a new space after a much-needed expansion.

'Bigger and Better' was Executive Director Carissa Harvey's goal when she took the position with Interfaith Friends. The bigger it is, the more people they can help.

"We help low-income families. We help with utility bills, we help with shut-off notices, homelessness. We provide many programs for them," said Carissa Harvey, Executive Director of Interfaith Friends.

Including a Christmas program that helps more than 300 children each season. The center also has a library for children to enjoy.

Secretary and Bookkeeper for Interfaith Friends, Michelle Rozina, says she knows firsthand how much Interfaith Friends can help those in need.

"It was in the middle of a snowstorm. I was, you know, trying to find a place to stay, and it was a really rough time. They helped me tremendously," said Michelle Rozina, Secretary & Bookkeeper at Interfaith Friends.

The non-profit has a thrift store called Sweet Repeats for customers to shop. All the money collected stays in and helps those in Wyoming County.

Jan Aletras, President of the Interfaith Board, reminds people another way to help is by donating to the thrift store. Everything from clothes to home goods is accepted.

"Don't throw it away if it's in perfectly good shape. Bring it down here so that we can earn more money to help people in the community," said Jan Aletras, President of the Interfaith Board.
