New life for familiar eatery near Tunkhannock

Newswatch 16's Melissa Steininger explains how the well-known Pink Apple is bringing together families in more ways than one.

WYOMING COUNTY, Pa. — A familiar name once again stands tall over Route 6 near Tunkhannock. Sunny Pink Apple is a nod to the restaurant that came before it.

"We used to come here years ago. I'm glad to see it open back up," Clarence Marbarker said.

Inside, the dining room is already packed with customers on its opening week.

"Since it's been closed, we really missed it because there's only a few place in town you can get a simple lunch," Glenda Marbaker said.

Behind the scenes, one family is making it all happen.

"Two of my daughters worked for the prior owner. My one daughter waitressed for her. She loved it here so much that she's the one that got me going with this," said Maren Visavati, the new owner.

Sunny's Pink Apples is truly a family affair with five siblings running the show.

In the kitchen, it's sister alongside sister.

"We've been laughing back here all day, even though it's been insane," Briana Deacon said.

Tia and Brianna spearhead the menu and all the cooking.

"It's not just from a bag or from a box. We want to put our love and our effort in our foods."

The restaurant is looking to once again bring families together in Wyoming County.

"To know that families would like to come here and eat our food and just sit and enjoy one another and make new memories. That's our goal," Briana Deacon said.

Just as it has for their family as well.

"To be able to have this for them so they're able to see their work and appreciate what they put into it and know that they're doing this for themselves and the community," Visavati said. "They can see what they've done on their own."
