Greenley's BBQ adding some flavor with new space inside Wyoming Healthcare Center

What seems like an unlikely pairing is a match that goes together like coleslaw and BBQ.

WYOMING COUNTY, Pa. — Jim Greenley has been serving up mouthwatering BBQ in Wyoming County his entire life.

"We're cooking a stuffed pepper soup. We have a pork nacho, some brisket," said Jim Greenley.

Now, his beloved BBQ business is taking on a new form, as he set up shop inside the Wyoming Healthcare Center. What seems like an unlikely pairing is a match that goes together like coleslaw and BBQ.

"We're helping our friends who are doing some really amazing things for the community, and we also needed a bigger kitchen, and so one hand washes the other, as the old saying goes," said Jim.

The Wyoming Healthcare Center is the site of the former Tyler Memorial Hospital. It stopped services more than two years ago, forcing residents to leave the county to get critical care.

Since then, it's gotten a new life with new owners, a lab collection site, primary care offices, and Greenley's now taking over the old hospital cafeteria.

"We all came together to try to get some sort of community healthcare back. We lost our hospital; we were battling with the ambulance thing. When everybody pulls together, we can do great things, and we feel we're part of that," said the owner.

Jim's taking on this new journey alongside his daughter, Liv, who's been cooking with dad as long as she can remember.

"Even before he started the business, I was on the step stool in the kitchen with him taste-testing sauce. 'Hey Liv, what does this need? More salt, more pepper, more garlic?'" said Olivia Greenley.

Years later, they're still coming up with new recipes. The new space allows them to expand their menu, including breakfast, deli, and ice cream options.

"You know you fast before you get blood work? So we get a lot of 9 o'clock, I'm starving I haven't eaten since last night," said Jim.

Its impact goes far beyond just some good BBQ.

"Just being able to sit and talk to a doctor for five minutes, fill their bellies, and get them back out there. It means a lot more to me than anyone can really comprehend unless you're in the industry," said Olivia Greenley.

Keeping a community healthy in more ways than one.

Greenley's BBQ is already open for business inside the Wyoming Healthcare Center. It's open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
