TUNKHANNOCK, Pa. — It's the season to celebrate love. At Monzie's Floral Design on East Tioga Street in Tunkhannock, planning for the holiday rush starts long before the calendar flips to February.
"I usually start ordering our flowers right after Christmas, I put my order in for Valentine's Day on December 28th this year," said Owner, Monica Labar-Hughes.
Some people are shopping early. Labar-Hughes says she already has specialty orders on the books.
"A lot of our customers come to us and they want a mixed bouquet not necessarily roses which is the traditional flower for Valentine's Day. Our customers go for big nice mixed arrangements, roses, lilies, Gerber daisies," said Labar-Hughes.
And the holiday isn't just for relationships anymore.
Monzie's is also gearing up for a Galentine's Day design class on February 10th so people can celebrate friendship this time of year.
"Galentine's Day we usually do the weekend before, just because you want to get out and hang out with your girlfriends and then reserve Valentine's for your spouse or significant other," said Labar-Hughes.
"We have a brunch set up, we do a mimosa bar and snacks. But we also design a floral arrangement that you can keep and this year we are also featuring a bath soap bar. So after you are done with your arrangement you can make a bath soap."
