TUNKHANNOCK -- Sausage and pancakes were just some of what firefighters at Triton Hose Company Number One in Tunkhannock helped whip up Wednesday morning as part of a free Veterans Day breakfast.

The event was sponsored by two area businessmen and it got its start 13 years ago.

"Bernie Sheldon and I own funeral homes in the county, and the veterans were coming out to do gravesite services for us. One day they said to us, 'you guys ought to be taking us out to lunch.' We said we'll do better than that! We'll treat you to breakfast every year on November 11, Veterans Day," explained Tom Kukuchka.

"It means so much for people to thank you for what you've done in the past for serving our country," said Army veteran Jim Gilpin.

Nearly 250 veterans showed up for the breakfast in Tunkhannock.
