HONESDALE, Pa. — A monument honoring women in the military was dedicated in Wayne County on Saturday.
The memorial is on the grounds of the Wayne County Courthouse in Honesdale.
After the dedication, there was a presentation on the history of women in the military.
"I think it's a great time for us to pause and talk about the service that women have given to this country for over 200 years since the Revolutionary War to Afghanistan. Women have stepped up seized every opportunity that was open to them, but many times, they were never recognized never said thank you to. And today, we're not only talking about the history of women in the military, but we're recognizing them and saying thank you for your service," said Brigadier General Maureen Weigl, Pennsylvania Bureau of Veterans Affairs.
Organizers say this is the only women's military monument in Pennsylvania.
