GOULDSBORO, Pa. — The snow-covered high elevation sign in Gouldsboro read 2142 feet. The higher the elevation, the more snow blanketed the Northeast.
Downed trees blocked roads, including Route 507, which made for a busy day for tree service crews.
"Since 2 a.m., a lot of trees down. The weight of the snow is bringing them all down and keeping people from getting places. It's pretty bound up in the area," said Eric Kobetitsch, owner of Precision Tree.
Along the drive to Newfoundland, plow trucks were clearing the roads. People were pleasantly surprised by what Mother Nature dropped for the first snow of the season.
"We were watching it, then I woke up, and I'm like, look at all this snow, so then we decided to come out and enjoy it instead of being stuck inside," said Shelby Milewski of Newfoundland.
Farther north in Sterling Township, cleaning up the wet and heavy snow called for heavy machinery.
"When it gets too heavy for my plow, the little plow on the quad, this is the way I go. Thank god I have the equipment to clean it up," said Stephen Falcone of Sterling Township.
For some, the snow meant a day off from work or school. For truck drivers trying to reach their destinations, many were met with a road closed sign at the ramp to Interstate 84.
"The loads we are delivering, we are on a time. We are trying to get home for Thanksgiving, and that is looking not too good right now," said Norman Biagas from Louisiana.
