DYBERRY TOWNSHIP -- It's fair season around Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania. When one ends, another is usually just starting.
For the Wayne County Fair, which starts this week, organizers and vendors can breathe a sigh of relief now that a bridge is back open at the entrance to the fairgrounds.
Friday's the day and in the lead up to opening day there is plenty of activity on the fairgrounds north of Honesdale, so the vendors, rides, and 4-H barns will be ready when thousands of people come to enjoy the 152nd annual Wayne County fair.
In a couple of days, the midway at the Wayne County Fairgrounds near Honesdale will be packed with people.
But before they all show up, there's a lot of work to get done.
There's a lot of spiffing up to do, rides need to be put together and the exhibits inside the 4-H barns need to be ready for the livestock, their home away from home.
"Tomorrow our dairy animals can come in, our beef animals. Then we'll be hauling in all their care, forage, and feed," said Amy Theobald of Riverside Farm.
Maintenance crews were busy hanging flags and getting garbage cans ready for all sorts of stuff that gets thrown out during the 10-day event.
"We have hundreds of flags to put up, garbage cans to get set out, lots of fencing along the road for parking and pedestrians," said fair employee Gary Brink.
Just in time for the fair to start Friday, the bridge over Dyberry Creek was finished one week prior to start of the fair, as the contractors kept their promise, meaning the show will go on.
"We're so happy we got the new bridge put in here this year and they finally got it finished in time so we can get our trucks and trailers in here," said fair board member Jack Gumpper.
And so with another Wayne County Fair, Justin Rowe's busy stretch has only just started. He's delivering food to vendors from the local supermarket.
"We go to different stands. We do a lot of different stuff: dairy, frozen, meat room, and everything else. Been busy, this week and next week," he said.
The Wayne County Fair runs from August 1st through the 9th.
It's just $8 to get in and ride all the rides.
