WAYNE COUNTY, Pa. — Kresswood Lake was not ready for game time this weekend at Wally Ice Fest in Dreher Township near Newfoundland.
But the annual hockey tournament in Wayne County still went on with different games and another focus.
"Most of the teams that were registered to play, they drove up anyway for the party all over from South Carolina, Canada, Virginia, Maryland, Long Island, Philadelphia," said Michael Coppola, Wally Ice Fest.
"It was also about friendship as much as about hockey that, people getting together that haven't seen each other for a long time. So they came here with Plan B and just had a blast," said Anne McCausland, Keller Williams Real Estate.
The food, games, and entertainment were enough to draw a crowd.
"We see a lot of local people, a lot of friends. We haven't seen in a while, come through the music. Because I'm a drama musician. So I like to listen to it," said John Dzienisiewski, Greene Township.
"People from all over Canada. We had people from Jersey, Long Island, and Binghamton make the drive to cow, so it is growing. It's, yeah. So we're very fortunate with the weather especially," said Coppola.
"People were having a good time they were hanging out longer just enjoying being out talking with each other really an awesome community event," said Kristin Terrones, Keller Williams Real Estate.
Vendors tell Newswatch 16 they believe thousands showed up to this year's event, so no matter the conditions on the water, this year was a success.
"Yesterday it was really busy. We actually sold out. What we brought for a couple of so make sure we brought up today," said Ron Passaro, Hopping Eagle Brewing Company.
Organizers believe this event will continue to grow, no matter the weather in Wayne County.
