DREHER TOWNSHIP -- The owner of a restaurant in Wayne County who lost a relative to suicide offered customers a discount on Wednesday to bring awareness to suicide prevention.

If customers in Newfoundland told the server something good in their lives,  they got 10 percent off their bills.

Lunch time at the Newfoundland Hotel and patrons were ordering up all sorts of food from the menu. But also served on this day: some positivity, meant to help people who could use it.

"We like to say come in and think of something good, something positive, something good we can share with others if having a bad day, just a feel good thing," Michael Seagraves explained.

In exchange for those "positive thoughts," owner Michael Seagraves gave folks 10 percent off their bill. That money could also be donated to the society for suicide prevention, a cause near and dear to Seagraves' heart.

"I had a brother of mine take his life long ago, so it's a very topical day."

So, on World Suicide Prevention Day, it didn't take long for diners to think of something that makes them happy.

"Family, my kids, and ability to look at them every day, go to work, come back and see them," said Tim Stewart of Mountain Top.

"My daughter made the Slippery Rock equestrian team. She's excited, it's her dream," said Lauren Schafer of Newfoundland.

Former Newswatch 16 reporter Fred Lettieri was having lunch there. He has two happy healthy kids -- his "something good" -- and says the more that suicide is talked about, the better chances people can get the help they need.

"You see billboards about it, walks about it, you see more and more awareness about it, and it's nice to see that," Lettieri said.

When patrons leave the hotel in Newfoundland, the owners hope they take with them a message that life is good, and there are things worth living for.
