State rep. for Wayne, Pike Counties resigns

Rep. Joe Adams submitted a letter on Friday officially resigning from his position representing the 139th Legislative District.

WAYNE COUNTY, Pa. — A Republican lawmaker for parts of Wayne and Pike County has resigned his seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Rep. Joe Adams submitted a letter on Friday to the Speaker of the PA House, officially resigning from his position representing the 139th Legislative District.

Last month, Adams announced he would not seek re-election for the 139th House seat.

Adams' vacancy will require the Speaker of the House to call a special election within 60 days.

"Taking care of my family, understandably, must now be my priority. I will continue to work locally to help our community, its organizations, businesses, and people," Adams said in a release.

Last year, Adams pushed for legislation requiring cursive writing to be taught in public schools.
