WAYNE COUNTY, Pa. — A tractor-trailer is filled and ready to hit the road to take supplies to North Wilkesboro, North Carolina after Hurricane Helene tore through the area.
A collection drive was held at Top Notch Distributors in Honesdale to help fill it up with essentials.
"It's just unbelievable we have pet food, cleaning supplies, clothing, toys for the kids, personal items basically everything you can imagine is inside that trailer," said Robert VanBlarcom with Marshall Machinery.
"It was hard to believe all of the people who came out last night when we were loading the trailers just cars and pick up trucks of stuff, it was over whelming really," said Andy Diehl.
Andy Diehl with Diehl Trucking is driving a truck to Tennessee hauling bales of hay to a farm outside Johnson City. these photos show the farm underwater.
The owner of the farm says more than 1,000 bales of hay were lost, leaving no food for the beef herd. Diehl says it means a lot to be able to haul much needed supplies.
"We are a farming family, and we haul milk and cattle and hay. We are in the middle of it. My grandfathers were dairy farmers so it means a lot," said Diehl.
Organizers say many businesses in the Honesdale area and people in the community came together to make this donation possible.
"It just warms me up. It makes me want to believe that if something happened up here, we'd receive some support from other folks in the country," said VanBlarcom.
Some of the other businesses involved include Stephens Pharmacy, Fox Ledge, Arts for Him and Her too, and Clean by Catherine.
