WAYMART, Pa. -- A car came careening off the road in Wayne County and straight into Dollar General.
Emergency responders said the driver had a stroke while he was on Rt 6 in Waymart and he lost control. Officials said the driver’s wife was also in the car at the time of the crash.
“I couldn't believe it. I just never heard of that in this area anyway,” Michelle Cipilewski of Waymart said.
When Mark Mesko, owner of Mesko Glass, got the call to fix the hole he was shocked.
“This is a little different because it's gone through the side of the building but I guess we're on the rolodex so they call us first,” Mesko said.
Emergency responders said the driver was taken to the hospital and his wife was okay after the crash.
People who live nearby are relieved no one was killed, but are disappointed the Dollar General is closed.
“They're always busy, the people are very friendly, everything is always stocked well. I go there almost every day, needless to say,” Jean Waters of Waymart said.
Employees at the Dollar General said no one was in this part of the store at the time of the crash, but people who live nearby say this building has had its fair share of problems.
“About a month and a half ago they had to replace the roof from storm damage from that tornado that went through, before that there was some flooding, a gas leak, the building just seems to be cursed,” Nicholas Bolock of Pleasant Mount said.
Dollar General employees said the store should reopen within the next couple of days.
“Can't wait for it to open again. I went to go there and they were closed, so I really need to go there,” Cipilewski said.
