Roxy at Dessin Animal Shelter | 16 To The Rescue

In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we meet Roxy, a 4-year-old dog looking for her forever home after her previous owner had a change in circumstances.

HONESDALE, Pa. — Even on one of the coldest days of the year, Roxy is happiest outside. This 4-year-old bull terrier/shepherd mix is living at Dessin Animal Shelter and has quickly become the best sidekick and a favorite for rescue workers to bring along for a ride.

"She's just a very fun companion. She loves being around people. She's up for anything. We take her on trips in the car, we walk her down Main Street, and we take her out to the park, and she is up for any kind of adventure," said Linda Gambone, Dessin Animal Shelter.

Roxy was an owner surrender; her previous owner had a change in circumstances and brought her to the shelter near Honesdale.

"I have to say that she's been at the shelter now about three months, and really, she's very lonely here. When you come up to her kennel, she immediately picks up a stuffed toy and wants to play," Gambone said.

In the past three months, rescue workers have been getting her out as much as possible. Rescue workers say Roxy is really smart and comes with good training.

"She's good with kids. She's actually very gentle with kids even though she's a big dog. So, we might just have caution around little kids with her running around. But otherwise, she's very gentle with them," said Gambone.

Roxy can also go to a home with other pets; she is OK with cats and mostly male dogs.

"She's active and playful, but she'll settle down after she gets her zoomies out. She's up for anything, so a perfect family would be someone that involves her in their lives, and takes her places and just incorporates her into whatever they're doing," Gambone said.
