A delivery truck crashed in Union County Friday morning, spilling packages under a bridge along the road.

It is a striking image: around one thousand UPS packages laying on the railroad tracks just off Old Route 15 near Milton. Not just any UPS packages...car parts, books, clothing. Things people are waiting for.

State police say a car lost control at the on-ramp to Interstate 80 near Milton. The driver knocked out part of this sign and hit this UPS truck. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, but the UPS driver is okay. Troopers say the UPS truck lost most of its load: around 1,000 packages.

Most of the packages went over the bridge and ended up here on top of the railroad tracks underneath Interstate 80.

Newswatch 16 spoke with a representative from UPS about those packages. He says the truck was headed for Massachusetts, and, "the packages will either be disposed of or salvaged - all customers will be made whole. We will contact the shipper and ask them to order a new item."

UPS said all of the packages are tracked by bar codes and customers can get an update on their orders by tracking their package online.

"They're good with that, UPS and Federal Express and the postal service, letting you know that there has been a mishap on your packages which may cause a delay or damage to your package," Chris Barone said.

Chris Barone owns a shipping business near Lewisburg and recommends insuring your packages for their full value. Customer Maryann Long agrees.

"If you don't have insurance then it comes out of your pocket. But if you have insurance, at least you get some of the replacement money, if not all of it," Long said.
