ALLENWOOD, Pa. — Monday was a busy morning at the Allenwood Cafe. Regulars packed the place on Route 15 in Union County for their favorite breakfast.
While it's technically the restaurant's opening day, it's actually been here for 11 years. The Allenwood Cafe closed about two years ago, but now it's back in business.
"It was right after COVID, and we could not get anyone to work. I was the manager with the old owner. There were only three of us, and we were just really running," owner Samantha Pursell recalled.
Pursell decided to reopen the Allenwood Cafe.
"Everyone always said they missed the café, and they missed us that worked here, so it's just home to a lot of people."
Bob Hanford from Muncy was disappointed when the cafe closed.
"It was a staple in the community, and we were regulars."
Hanford and other regulars are happy their favorite breakfast spot is back.
"We get to see all the people we used to be here with, and they're like a big family," Donna Satteson said.
"It's exciting and we're getting great feedback. Everyone's loving it so far."
Pursell says the Allenwood Cafe is known for its breakfast and chicken and waffles on Thursdays.
The cafe will be open Monday through Saturday.
