LEWISBURG, Pa. — Croissants come in all sizes and flavors. The buttery, flaky pastry is shaped like a crescent, and it's a French specialty. In fact, it is National Croissant Day, and Lewisburg's newest bakery is marking the occasion.
"Originally, we wanted to do something on the weekend, this past weekend, but we realized the croissant day, and my brother wanted to make it a two-in-one occasion," Nour Hadjmabrouk said.
Paris Bakery and Cafe is opening its doors for the first time on National Croissant Day. Nour Hadjmabrouk and her family are from Tunisia, which was colonized by France.
"The architecture, the food, the language, we all speak French, that's why we got inspired by the cafes we have over there," Hadjmabrouk said.
Hadjmabrouk says bakeries like this are common in Tunisia but not around here.
"Whenever we crave croissants, we always make the three-hour drive to Virginia or other states like D.C. We always wanted to open a business like this that feels like home," Hadjmabrouk said.
Besides croissants, Paris Bakery and Cafe will have baguettes, coffees, and fresh-squeezed orange juice.
"Anything pastries—French pastries, tarts, macaroons, quiches," Hadjmabrouk said.
Paris Bakery and Cafe officially opens this Friday. We're told there will be plenty of croissants.
