LEWISBURG, Pa. — Dan Fry of New Columbia spent a portion of his afternoon enjoying a milkshake on a warm summer's day.
"That is a Boston Shake. It is supposed to be birch beer, ice cream, and hot fudge," said Fry.
He and his wife stopped by May's Freez in Lewisburg for a cool afternoon snack. The ice cream shop, formerly known as the Lewisburg Freez, opened this past weekend under new management.
Co-owner Jake May says it's been busy.
"We had our first back up into the road almost, and that was great to see. I hope to see that for the rest of the season," said May.
Customers tell Newswatch 16 that the Lewisburg Freez was a staple in the area for years. May talked to Newswatch 16 about getting ready for opening week.
"Working here when we weren't open and getting things ready, every day there's something asking when are you opening," May said. "It is great. It is a huge weight off my shoulders to be open, and it is great to be able to serve people."
Newswatch 16 caught up with customers who say it's good to have this place open once again.
"It is a good place to come if you want to get some good desserts. They have different things for you to buy, and you can select whatever you want," Fry added.
"It is great," said Gene Kilgus of Watsontown. "They always have great ice cream, and when the other Freez was here, they were really good too."
The shop along Route 15 in Lewisburg plans to offer plenty of familiar and new sweets to customers all season long.
