Hufnagle Park is a place where people gather in Lewisburg, but the community spot has been closed since last May for renovations. That all changed earlier this week when fencing around the park was removed, and Hufnagle Park is open once again.

"We were comfortable enough that the winter weather was behind us, that we were able to open up the event center so that individuals can come in here now and see what we have done, explore the state, explore the seating area," Lewisburg Borough Manager William Lowthert said.

The $3.5 million project was paid for with federal grant money. Construction started last spring to remove the park's gazebo, replacing it with a new event venue.

"The public wanted more event space, more ability to have music to come in here, more ability to do plays. The old gazebo was great, but it just wasn't big enough for how the public wanted to use it," Lowthert said.

Since Hufnagle Park reopened, people have been stopping by to check it out.

"My husband is involved in the arts council which sponsors some of the concerts. The sound was iffy, it was OK—not bad but not great. I'm excited, I think this will be much better," Dee Ledgerwood said.

Dee Ledgerwood and Karen Stier are Bucknell University graduates.

"It's gorgeous. I think it's really going to enhance the space and allow people to gather and enjoy the music," Karen Stier said.

Officials say there will be a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony at Hufnagle Park sometime next month.
