LEWISBURG, Pa. — "It's kind of a tradition in this area too, so other local communities will do the same this. Everybody will start coming out and we'll start to hear Christmas music, we might have somebody playing saxophone across the street." said Ellen Ruby, Executive Director of the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership.
Over the last decade, the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership has worked to give businesses a boost and residents a chance to get started on their holiday gift list by having late night shopping.
Friday night saw hundreds fill the sidewalks of Market Street in downtown as small boutiques extended their hours for those looking to get a deal.
"Designer clothing, designer bags lots of jewelry, a little bit of everything." Said Ava Harmon at Wilson Ross.
For Harmon, this will be her first time working the unique event.
Something she hopes generates more late-night business.
"We are looking to bring in some new customers, returning customers… we have some discounts on the scarf's our new clothing is all 20% off." said Harmon.
"We've got a full house; a lot of the community has come downtown and a lot of out of towners of time as well." Said Kate Rabuck.
Rabuck is the restaurant manager at Elizabeth's Bistro. She says the late-night shopping brings an influx of hungry customers looking to take a break from walking.
"A lot of good downtown shops are open and then there's good food, of course too so what's not to love. Shopping you got a refuel after your shop, right?" She added.
Restaurants and businesses are not the only ones benefiting from late day shopping. Residents say it's a great way to start the holiday season.
"We love seeing everyone here, we love supporting local businesses. It's just such a fun event for us every year." Said Lewisburg resident Daniel Street.
With his family in tow, Street says the event offers the perfect opportunity to find the perfect gift for someone like mom.
"We really appreciate the after hours, because I work during the day so it's nice to be able to come and enjoy time with my family." said Street.
Many businesses plan to extend their hours throughout the rest of the month.
They encourage residents and visitors to area to shop locally.
