Hopping to the candy store before Easter

Easter is only three days away, which doesn't leave much shopping time. A candy store in Union County is ready for last-minute customers.

ALLENWOOD, Pa. — Easter comes early this year, which has some people feeling like the holiday snuck up on us.

"I think people are finally starting to realize now very close to Easter that it's coming. We've been trying to get the word out with our signs and social media," Purity Candy Owner John Burfeindt said.

People hopped into Purity Candy near Allenwood to get some goodies for their Easter baskets.

"We come to Purity every year and we're interested today in the eggs because we can get our names on them," Carol Gilbert of Williamsport said.

"This is kind of like a tradition. If you don't come to the candy store for Easter, it's taboo or something," Sandra Ulrich of Elimsport said.

The Ulrich family knew exactly what they were looking for.

"We got mostly peanut butter, a couple of bunnies, and just a sample of a little bit of everything," Ulrich said.

Purity Candy Owner John Burfeindt says Good Friday is typically the company's busiest day of the year. The biggest sellers are what you would expect.

"Peanut butter smoothies and we do that in our eggs and chocolate rabbits. We do free names on eggs. We have sometimes a line waiting for names on everything," Burfeindt said.

Speaking of chocolate, prices have recently gone up by about 30%. Burfeindt says Purity Candy will raise its prices after Easter. He hopes it's temporary.

"Most of our production was done before the price increase was announced so we figured we'd just, since it was made with the cheaper chocolate, we'll sell it at the cheaper price," Burfeindt said.

Purity Candy is open on Saturday for all of the last-minute shoppers.
